TENS machine
Whether you are planning a natural labour, or hoping for an epidural- a TENS machine will help you either way!

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, where electrode pads are placed on your lower back, and a small electrical pulse is sent through it. It effectively floods the brain with non painful stimuli, which distracts you from the pain of contractions. It is controlled by a hand held unit, where you can alter the strength, as well as press ‘boost’ during a contraction. This means you can slowly increase the intensity as your labour progresses.

It has been well researched and is well loved by labouring women. Even if your goal is epidural as soon as possible, a TENS machine will help you get to the point you are able to have one!

$60 to hire, with a $60 refundable bond added.
TENS machine can be sent around New Zealand, and will be sent to you at 37 weeks pregnant, and you have it until baby is born.

Birth Pool
Birth pools are a wonderful method for pain relief, and if you are planning a homebirth you tend to miss out on this. Hiring a birth pool means the best of both worlds.

The birth pool is a la bassine, which is a large sized pool, allowing many different birthing positions.
​
Cost is $150 to hire, and an additional $50 as a refundable bond if pool returned in good condition. Pool liner, pump, tap attachment hose and thermometer included in hire price.
Pool can be picked up from Paraparaumu, or dropped off in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kapiti and Palmerston North for an aditional fee.

Hiring period is from 37 weeks pregnant until your baby is born.
